Kisspeptin-10

Kisspeptin-10 is a biologically active decapeptide derived from the larger kisspeptin protein, which is encoded by the KISS1 gene. It is a key regulator of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis and plays an essential role in initiating and maintaining reproductive hormone signaling. Kisspeptin-10 stimulates the release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus, which subsequently triggers the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the pituitary gland. These hormones are critical for regulating puberty, fertility, and overall reproductive function.

In research settings, Kisspeptin-10 is studied for its influence on puberty onset, fertility disorders, and hormonal balance in both males and females. It is also of interest in neuroendocrinology due to its role in linking metabolic signals with reproductive function.
