Orexin A

Orexin A is a naturally occurring neuropeptide produced in the hypothalamus that plays a central role in regulating arousal, wakefulness, appetite, and energy homeostasis. It is part of the orexin (hypocretin) system, which helps stabilize the sleep–wake cycle and maintain alertness throughout the day.

In research settings, Orexin A is studied for its effects on promoting wakefulness, increasing motivation and feeding behavior, and coordinating autonomic and metabolic processes. Dysregulation of the orexin system is strongly associated with sleep disorders such as narcolepsy, making it a key target in neuroscience and sleep biology research.

Because of its broad influence on brain and metabolic function, Orexin A is widely investigated in studies related to sleep regulation, neuroendocrine signaling, and energy balance. However, it remains primarily a research compound and is not used as a standard therapeutic medication in general clinical practice.
