Orexin B

Orexin B is a naturally occurring neuropeptide produced in the hypothalamus that is part of the orexin (hypocretin) system. It works alongside Orexin A to regulate wakefulness, arousal, appetite, and energy homeostasis by acting on orexin receptors in the brain and peripheral nervous system.

In research settings, Orexin B is studied for its role in maintaining stable wake–sleep cycles, supporting alertness, and coordinating metabolic and autonomic functions. It is also investigated for its involvement in feeding behavior and energy expenditure, as well as its interaction with stress and reward pathways in the brain.

Disruption of orexin signaling is strongly linked to sleep disorders such as narcolepsy, making Orexin B an important focus in neuroscience and sleep research. However, it remains a research compound and is not used as a general therapeutic medication in standard clinical practice.
